Motorcycle Toy Run 2011.

The Festive Season is fast approaching, heralding the annual Motorcycle Toy Run that is scheduled to take place on Sunday, 27 November 2011. The 2011 rendition of the much-loved Toy Run event is at a NEW end-venue, it will be held at the John Barrable Hall which is situated at the Benoni Northerns Sports grounds in Northmead, Benoni. The off-road ride is again hosted by Dirt Broncos.

The Toy Run is an institution amongst the biking fraternity, says Graeme Cartwright, Toy Run 2011 end-venue organiser. “The addition of a venue located on the East Rand is in line with safety considerations from the organising committee that are centred around the reduction of massed rides in hope of alleviating congestion and overheating of bikes en route. The East Rand Toy Run will cater for both hard core bikers as well as family members with separate sound stages and a kiddie’s play area.”

“For those who wish to participate in a mass ride, two starting venues in the form of Meadowdale Checkers Hyper in Edenvale (East) and Westgate Shopping Centre (West) will be available. We would like to urge bikers and their families to form their own rides to the end venue, for those who would like to steer clear of the mass rides,” says Cartwright.

Toy Run is synonymous with a great day out and comprises of entertainment, stalls including food stands and events. “The only entrance fee charge is a toy for the less fortunate. We would however like to remind our patrons that the children benefiting from the event range in age from 6 months to 18 years and we would like ask our Toy Run patrons to focus on educational and toiletry packs as gifts,” explains Cartwright.

The annual Toy Run has been held for 28 consecutive years and has expanded to include over 20 simultaneous toy collections around the country. Even during the economic crisis of 2010, 60 000 toys were collected for re-distribution to the less fortunate children in various homes, the Gauteng run having managed to gather 35 000 toys and educational parcels.

“We would like to remind participants that the Johannesburg Metro Police Department could be checking bikes for roadworthiness and that the organisers fully support the wearing of full protective gear,” concludes Cartwright.

About Toy Run.

Launched in 1982 simultaneously in Cape Town and Johannesburg by the Italian Motorcycle Owners Club (IMOC), the Toy Run is now the largest motorcycling-related charity event in Southern Africa and arguably the world. A Toy Run is held in over nineteen centres in the Southern African region, hosted by local motorcycle clubs and other organisations, with the invaluable assistance of the commercial sector.

The Toy Run Company was founded in 1996 as a section 21 company and comprises a board of directors appointed from the organising committee. The directors, the organising committee and the distributing Round Tables work as volunteers and expect no remuneration for services rendered. The aim of Toy Run is to improve and enhance the image of motorcyclists and to collect and distribute toys and gifts to less privileged children up to the age of18 years.
